PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program Specifics | Ocean University Medical Center

Program Structure and Curriculum

  • The structure and curriculum of the residency program provides the residents with a wide range of experiences with a diverse patient population and a variety of disease states.
  • The residents will be scheduled for 6 core learning experiences and 4 elective learning experiences of their choice. Each rotation is scheduled for 5 weeks.
  • The residents will also take part in the 6 core longitudinal learning experiences throughout the residency year.
  • No more than one-third of the twelve-month PGY1 pharmacy residency program may deal with a specific patient disease state population (e.g. critical care, infectious diseases)
  • At least two-thirds of the year will consist of direct patient care activities.
Learning Experiences

At the beginning of the residency program, the residency program director will utilize the baseline assessments and resident interests to create the resident’s learning experience schedule. The schedule will be created based on the interests, experience, knowledge base, and preferences of the resident. The residency program director may modify the schedule as needed based on the needs of the resident. Each preceptor will set the expectations for their specific rotations and it would be the expectation of the resident to follow these expectations.
