Led by Shabbar Danish, M.D., our fellowship trained neurosurgeons, neurologists, neuro-oncologists, and care team specialists work with patients to create and manage unique treatment plans. Dr. Danish is the region’s expert in care for patients with brain tumors, movement disorders, epilepsy and facial pain. Known worldwide for his expertise, he has pioneered techniques for deep brain stimulation and MRI guided laser therapy for inoperable brain tumors.
Our Center for Treatment of Paralysis and Reconstructive Nerve Surgery uses the most advanced treatment options to help restore function in patients who have suffered from stroke, neuropathy, brachial plexus injuries, diaphragm paralysis and other conditions. Co-directed by Andrew Elkwood, M.D., and Matthew Kaufman, M.D., our internationally-renowned team performs nerve-related surgeries and procedures that allow patients with inoperable injuries or who have been told that they have limited treatment options go on to live full and active lives. JFK University Medical Center is currently the only hospital in New Jersey to use virtual reality technology to plan surgery, giving patients a realistic, three-dimensional view of what their surgery will entail. VR is also changing the way surgeries are practiced and performed, even reducing the amount of time spent in the operating room.
