Basic Life Support

Hackensack University Medical Center believes that great pre-hospital critical care for our communities begins with high quality education.

To provide the highest quality of care to our patients we ensure that every Emergency Medical Technician receives rigorous and ongoing classroom and clinical education. In addition, each member of our Basic Life Support (BLS) team is certified by the New State Department of Health and Senior Services’ Office of Emergency Medical Services to meet these exacting standards. We believe our commitment to education is reflected in the professional and compassionate care our team provides.

Our Life Support Services

Hackensack University Medical Center’s BLS team just celebrated their first year as Hackensack University Medical Center employees; operating eleven BLS units throughout Bergen County and responding to 18,601 calls for service in 2015. Hackensack University Medical Center BLS provides both 911 and non-emergency transport services to municipalities both within the Hackensack Meridian Health Network area and to surrounding communities.  As the primary providers of 911 services to the City of Hackensack during daytime hours, the City of Garfield around the clock, and the Borough of Emerson during daytime hours, the Hackensack University Medical Center BLS team is proud to serve the citizens of these communities.

In addition, our BLS units are honored to support the many volunteer services throughout Bergen, Passaic and Hudson counties through mutual aid.

Community Events and Programs

In addition to providing BLS services, the BLS unit also provides community event coverage and facilitates specialty programs such as the Honor Guard, Bike Team, “Touch a Truck” events at local schools, and education at senior centers helping to establish strong community relationships in the primary coverage area.
