Stem Cell Transplant & Cellular Therapy Program

Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital is home to New Jersey’s only pediatric stem cell transplant program. We are among national leaders in pediatric bone marrow transplant using the patient’s own blood (autologous) or a separate donor (allogeneic). Your child receives care in a family-centered setting from a highly experienced team of experts. We are one of the first in the nation to be granted the Blood and Marrow Transplant Disease Specific Certification from the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO).

Our specialized program offers:

  • Allogeneic stem cell transplants (matched sibling, unrelated donor, cord blood, and haplo-identical)
  • Autologous stem cell transplants (using the patient’s own blood)
  • Bone Marrow Failure Clinic: evaluation and treatment of both acquired and congenital bone marrow failures
  • Bone Marrow Transplant Endocrine Clinic: evaluation and treatment of post-pediatric stem cell transplant and cellular therapy endocrine disorders
  • Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy: novel therapy for relapsed and refractory acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL)
  • Clinical Trials
  • Cure and Beyond, a program which supports bone marrow transplant survivors beyond two years
  • Gene therapy for severe Sickle Cell disease
  • Management of post-transplant complications: extracorporeal photopheresis for graft vs. host disease, including blood prime procedures for low-weight patients (less than 66 pounds)
  • On-site leukopheresis for peripheral stem cells and bone marrow stem cell harvesting
  • Pediatric pain and palliative care
  • Primary Immunodeficiency Clinic: evaluation and treatment of abnormal newborn immunodeficiency screening
