SIDS Support
The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Center of New Jersey (SCNJ) is a statewide program with three missions.
- Bereavement support for New Jersey’s families whose infants and toddlers have died suddenly and unexpectedly
- Research into efforts to identify underlying causes
- Public health education to help reduce the risk of such deaths
The SCNJ is offered at both the Joseph M. Sanzari Children’s Hospital at Hackensack University Medical Center, and Rutgers, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, in New Brunswick, NJ.
Providing continued support
All referred families receive covered support through their first year of bereavement. The SCNJ also provides families with programs for continued support beyond that time, including:
- 24-hour hotline: 1-800-545-7437
- Clergy support
- Referral to local mental health services
- Annual statewide memorial services, typically one during the summer and one during the winter
- Help in understanding a diagnosis
