Laboratory Services
Our onsite laboratories provide testing for patients from infancy to age 21. All phlebotomists – staff certified in drawing blood – are experienced caring for children of all ages and conditions. Our goal is to make a successful first “stick” to help eliminate stress during a blood draw. Some of the most common tests our lab performs for children are:
- Allergies
- Bilirubin – total and direct
- Complete blood count (CBC)
- Follow-up PKU (phenylketonuria) newborn screening test*
- Lead levels
- Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
*For PKU (phenylketonuria) tests, we recommend coming before 1 p.m. Monday – Friday.
*For bilirubin testing after hours and on weekends when the Medical Plaza Building Laboratory is closed (after 7 pm weekdays, 3 pm Saturday and all day Sunday), the Pediatrician should send a prescription with the parent for a STAT Neonatal Bilirubin, Total with their contact phone number. The patient should be sent to the Adm Services Dept (Spectra link - 71520), Direct Admit 24/7 location on the 2nd fl. of the Sanzari Children’s hospital (i.e.2E-96). A phlebotomist from the medical center will be called to draw the blood. The results should be available in approximately one hour and will be called to the Pediatrician. The blood will be drawn irrespective of the patient’s insurance status, and if the lab does not take the patient‘s insurance, the patient will not be billed.
