We believe trauma care starts with prevention. Our trauma prevention teams at Jersey Shore University Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center research injury trends and develop education programs to help keep our communities safe.Programs for Children

A partnership between Jersey Shore University Medical Center Regional Trauma Center and the New Jersey State Police provides a free Car Seat Fitting Station the first Tuesday of every month, 3 to 7 p.m., along the medical center’s Davis Ave. entrance, off of Route 33, in Neptune City, NJ.
Child passenger safety technicians will ensure that visitors’ car seats are appropriate for parents and caregivers’ children and assist with proper installation in vehicles. No appointment necessary.

Programs for Teens
We offer specialized programs designed to prepare teens for the road while prioritizing their safety. Equip them with the skills they need to drive confidently and stay protected from potential trauma risks.
In collaboration with Brain Injury Alliance NJ. Champion School teen groups are given a stipend to assist in the creation of a safe driving campaign. The top three winning schools will receive a cash reward for their school from NJM Insurance. Members of the BIA NJ and myself will be available to lend guidance.

Share the Keys is a hands-on program for parents and their teen drivers, designed to boost safety on the road. It focuses on getting parents more involved in their teens' driving habits since research shows that supportive, rule-setting parents can help cut crash risks in half. The goal is to build safer driving practices through open communication and guidance.

High School students are taught a Safety Curriculum. They teach these classes to students in an affiliated grammar school. This program has been developed by the RWJ Trauma Center in New Brunswick. We would work in collaboration with their program manager and your school.

High school students in Monmouth, Ocean, and Middlesex Counties can earn service hours by working on trauma injury prevention projects or helping community partners. Projects can be short or long-term, and we encourage students to pick ones that match their interests or career goals. Along with service hours, they’ll gain valuable skills, mentorship, and connections—plus, it’s a great experience to include on college or job applications.

This program helps high school students recognize their own power to prevent traumatic injuries and make safe choices. It covers practical tips like safe driving practices, using seat belts correctly, and avoiding risky behaviors like distracted or impaired driving. The goal is to empower students to make decisions that protect themselves and others, both on and off the road.

Programs for Seniors
As we age, preventing injuries becomes essential to enjoying a vibrant and fulfilling life. Our specialized programs are designed to help you stay safe, active, and independent throughout your golden years.
We’ll cover some important tips to help you stay safe on the road, whether you’re driving or just getting around. You’ll learn about common hazards like speeding, distracted driving, how vision or motor issues can affect safety and more.

Program for seniors. Fall prevention programs, like those offered by the Administration for Community Living (ACL) (.gov), aim to reduce falls and fall-related injuries across the lifespan, particularly for older adults and individuals with disabilities, by promoting evidence-based interventions and community engagement.

Review of our Home Safety Checklist. We discuss anticipating situations that can lead to falls both in the home and in the outdoor environment. Tips are shared for reducing these risks.

All ages have risks for Falls, but Falls do not have to be inevitable. In this program we discuss the 8 Paradigms for Fall Prevention. Participants are encouraged to identify their individual risks for falls, and then to consider some of the program's recommendations.
You will learn some Fall Prevention measures that you may not have heard before! The goal is that you walk away with a few suggestions that you will actually find easy to incorporate into your daily routine.

Did you know? 1 in 4 older adults age 65+ fall each year in the United States, with approximately 1 out of 5 fallers sustaining a serious injury. Making small changes in your home can decrease your risk of accidents and falls. We’ve put together a thorough in-home health care program checklist designed to help older adults stay safe.
