JFK Johnson's Brain Injury Program Applies the AM-PAC Model System Project

Post-acute care evaluation system improves understanding of challenges following TBI

One of only 16 centers to receive a Traumatic Brain Injury Model System grant, the Center for Brain Injuries at the Hackensack Meridian JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute is a recognized national leader in research to improve care for people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI).

Recent research progress includes a study showing the effectiveness of the Activity Measure for Post-Acute Care (AM-PAC), which improves clinical understanding of the challenges people experience in the near and long term following a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

This novel measure proved superior to other measures in allowing continuous evaluation of function in both inpatient and community settings. Through its research, JFK Johnson Rehabilitation Institute proved the usefulness of applying this scale following TBI. The institute’s researchers continue to study the AM-PAC’s potential to improve care after TBI over a patient's lifetime.
