A Cozy Gift in Time for the Holidays

Generous giving comes in many different forms - including cozy pajamas for our youngest patients! Old Bridge High School students, Priya Rana and Darriyah Jackson, recently joined forces to collect pajamas from fellow students and teachers to donate to Hackensack Meridian Old Bridge Medical Center’s Emergency Department.
The service learning project came about just in time for the holiday season of giving and gratitude to help support children going through treatment or receiving medical care at the hospital. To get started, Priya, Darriyah and other students created flyers, posted them throughout their school and made announcements to publicize the project. Although students, teachers and other administrators donated, the high school’s Transportation Department was instrumental in donating many of the PJs.
“Our Old Bridge High School community prides itself on helping others,” says principal Vincent Sasso, Ph.D. “Our students and staff are so generous and constantly show a daily commitment to supporting each other with kindness and compassion. Our students are always looking for opportunities to do the right thing, a phrase part of our everyday language here at the high school.”
The project inspired students to start a Women Supporting Women Club and the school plans to offer more service learning projects for students to benefit those in need.
“The amount of doctors, nurses and administrators that greeted us to say thank you was overwhelming, and we were honored to be a small piece of a bigger picture,” recalls Dr. Sasso.
